Our science lab

We have a science laboratory in our class. Every morning there are experiment cards set out and all of the equipment is on the table. We can do the experiments ourselves. There is a card that tells us what is happening. We love to be scientists and doing these experiments on our own. Mrs. M is there just to make sure that everything is alright.

Learning to writie instructions

We have been learning how to write instructions. Later this term we are going to do a scientific investigation and we are going to have to write up the method for this so that is why we are learning to write clear instructions now.Today we watched a Youtube video on how to make an origami puppy. We had to follow the video and make the paper puppy. After that we wrote up our own instructions and we added diagrams as well.

Our fantastic science fun this Friday

Today we learnt all about contraction and expansion. We did this experiment with an egg and a bottle and the egg went into the bottle. For this experiment we used: A glass milk bottle, hard boiled eggs, matches, newspaper, and a balloon. To start we lit the match and lit the newspaper and put the paper in the milk bottle. Then we put the egg over the top of the bottle. As the fire went out, the air in the bottle cooled down and then the egg slid into the bottle. We also did the same thing with a balloon. When the fire had gone out in the bottle, the air in the bottle cooled down and sucked the balloon inside the bottle. It was lots of fun.

The start of Semester Two

All the learning that happened in Term 2 has not been put up on the blog and I really do apologize for this. So here is to a new start of regular sharing of daily and weekly learning hot off the press. That is the whole purpose of our blog - for the world to have a look into our world and hear our voice as we learn.

We have got off to a cracking start looking at the scientific method and how we use the steps to conduct a scientific investigation.
We have also been looking at the Water Cycle as a starting point in our Inquiry on Water Sustainability - Learning it for life. We created our own water cycles in class.
