Our science lab

We have a science laboratory in our class. Every morning there are experiment cards set out and all of the equipment is on the table. We can do the experiments ourselves. There is a card that tells us what is happening. We love to be scientists and doing these experiments on our own. Mrs. M is there just to make sure that everything is alright.

Learning to writie instructions

We have been learning how to write instructions. Later this term we are going to do a scientific investigation and we are going to have to write up the method for this so that is why we are learning to write clear instructions now.Today we watched a Youtube video on how to make an origami puppy. We had to follow the video and make the paper puppy. After that we wrote up our own instructions and we added diagrams as well.

Our fantastic science fun this Friday

Today we learnt all about contraction and expansion. We did this experiment with an egg and a bottle and the egg went into the bottle. For this experiment we used: A glass milk bottle, hard boiled eggs, matches, newspaper, and a balloon. To start we lit the match and lit the newspaper and put the paper in the milk bottle. Then we put the egg over the top of the bottle. As the fire went out, the air in the bottle cooled down and then the egg slid into the bottle. We also did the same thing with a balloon. When the fire had gone out in the bottle, the air in the bottle cooled down and sucked the balloon inside the bottle. It was lots of fun.

The start of Semester Two

All the learning that happened in Term 2 has not been put up on the blog and I really do apologize for this. So here is to a new start of regular sharing of daily and weekly learning hot off the press. That is the whole purpose of our blog - for the world to have a look into our world and hear our voice as we learn.

We have got off to a cracking start looking at the scientific method and how we use the steps to conduct a scientific investigation.
We have also been looking at the Water Cycle as a starting point in our Inquiry on Water Sustainability - Learning it for life. We created our own water cycles in class.

A Celebration of Cultures

We ended Week 4 with a wonderful celebration of the different cultures represented in Year 4. Students designed hats that promoted their chosen culture and we enjoyed a delicious, shared afternoon tea with tasty treats from many cultures.
It was wonderful that so many parents, grandparents and family friends could enjoy the afternoon with us.

A busy week at school in Week 2

We have had a fantastic week at school, working really hard.
One of the most important things that we have done is decide on the guidlines for our class for the year. We made a class treaty.

We have spent some time researching our own cultures and we have found out that we have people in our class who are from America, England, Greece, Sri Lanka, France, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Korea, Italy, India and of course, AUSTRALIA.
We have been busy making CULTURE CD's.

Mrs. M is getting to know us because we made these movie strips about ourselves.

We also wrote I AM poems.

We have also made some amazing dragons. Here is a slide show of our art.

This is what we have we think and know about culture so far, in our learning:
Brianna - I know that I am the great, great, granddaughter of a Cornish miner.
I think culture is what people do together and what makes them happy together.
Claudia- I think culture is one nation. I learnt that some people come from another culture but
when they come to a new nation they are part of that nation.
Ruby- I think culture is what you take everywhere with you. I have learnt that in my Greek
culture that they stick real money on the bride and groom at a wedding.
Eliza- I think culture is all different people belonging to one group.
Tasnim - Culture is about what you eat, your language and what you do.
Danish - Culture is when everyone has a feast together.

Fantastic 4M

We have had a great start to the year meeting old friends, making new ones and meeting our new teacher, Mrs. M.
Although the week was short, we had a busy time talking about CULTURE, sharing our thoughts and working in pairs, researching the Chinese New Year. Did you know that this year is the Year of the Ox?
We learnt how to make notes in our own words, using bullet points.
We used these notes to put together a presentation.
One person was responsible for the visual presentation (what it looked like) and one person was responsible for using the research to type up the information.
In the afternoon we made beautiful Chinese Dragons, using a layered paper method.
It was a very busy week.
Have a look at our slideshow.
